Chester Rotary members meet at the Chester Hotel, circa 1940

Rotary was founded on February 23, 1905 by Paul P. Harris of Chicago, Illinois and became the world's first service club.  It is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

An organizational meeting was held on December 13, 1926, and this is sometimes given as the date that our club was officially organized.  At this meeting, John Brookshire was elected the first president; Arthur Gaston, vice president; Myron Brockman, secretary-treasurer; and William Stroud, sergeant-at-arms.
